Two sponsorship awards at the TH Nürnberg

This year, the ASQF Sponsorship Prize was awarded for the first time at the TH Nürnberg. Two graduates were honoured at the same time: Helmut Engelhardt and Andreas Dirr. The awards were sponsored by the companies Konzept Informationssysteme GmbH (Konzept IS) and iSyst Intelligente Systeme GmbH.

Helmut Engelhardt's master thesis "Evaluation of registration algorithms based on deep learning" was praised by his supervisor Prof. Dr. Stefan May and the sponsor Ralf Vogel (concept IS). Helmut Engelhardt's work dealt with current findings in the field of deep learning; he carried out an evaluation to demonstrate the feasibility of being able to map robust registration methods using neural networks.

According to Prof. Dr. May, this work is "one of the best final theses of the Laboratory for Mobile Robotics since its foundation. The commitment of Helmut Engelhardt in the RoboCup team AutonOHM was also emphasized, with which he achieved first place in both the 2017 World Championships in Nagoya and the 2018 World Championships in Montreal.

Ralf Vogel of Konzept IS again emphasized his close ties with the TH Nürnberg, where he graduated as a Dipl. Ing. in process engineering. He also showed great interest in the efi department, as this "Konzept IS offers some of the requirements for staff recruitment - electrical engineering, mechatronics and computer science. The goal of Konzept Informationssysteme GmbH, which has successfully established itself for 25 years as a software and systems house for industrial companies with a focus on software development, systems engineering, quality assurance as well as training & consulting in southern Germany and since 2010 also in Switzerland, is to expand its commitment to the promotion of young professionals. The company is active in a wide range of industries such as avionics, automotive, aerospace, energy systems, production and logistics as well as defence, medical and railway technology.

Andreas Dirr's final thesis in the part-time course of studies Software Engineering and Information Technology (WM-SE) on the topic "Conceptual design and prototypical realization of a monitor platform for middleware connection" was also awarded the ASQF Sponsorship Prize.

Mr. Dirr completed his thesis at Airbus Defence and Space in Ulm, where it was embedded in the entire software development practice of the company. Both study supervisor Prof. Dr. Hans-Georg Hopf and Daniel Heinrich (iSyst), who awarded the prize, praised Andreas Dirr for his first thesis with the ASQF prize, which was written during a part-time course of study. Prof. Dr. Hopf particularly emphasized Andreas Dirr's high commitment and good performance. Daniel Heinrich was also pleased that the winner of the award is hitting a nerve of time with his work on middleware systems, which is also an integral part of his own test systems.

Daniel Heinrich (iSyst) was also pleased to return to the former place of activity of iSyst GmbH. As a spin-off from the former Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences Nuremberg in 2000, iSyst Intelligente Systeme GmbH has developed over the years into an independent test house, which offers not only testing services but also the development of customized test systems as well as consulting, training and on-the-job training. Managing Director Daniel Heinrich emphasised that "iSyst was happy to take up the ball in order to give the university and the students a little bit back of the support we received in the company's early years". Over the years, the established cooperation between iSyst and the university has been able to prepare many students for working life through internships, working student time and final theses.

The ASQF e.V. congratulates the award winners Helmut Engelhard and Andreas Dirr. A big thank you also goes to the sponsors Konzept Informationssysteme and iSyst Intelligente Systeme.

The sponsorship prize is awarded regularly once or twice per semester. If you are also interested in nominating your students or sponsoring a prize, please contact info@asqf.de.
